The York County Sheriff’s Office has officially confirmed that the cadaver found in the Sharon area of York County is that of the missing 26-year-old, Zachary Patterson. Zachary, a proud and doting father of a one-year-old boy had been missing since May 9th. His distraught mom, Nicole Showers reveals that she had spoken to him last at around 3:30 pm on the very day he went missing.
According to Nicole, one of Zachary’s friends had come by her house looking for him, later that night around 9 pm, but Zachary was not there. She had an uneasy feeling about the entire incident. “I just felt really uneasy,” she confessed. By the following morning, her suspicions had been strengthened and she reported Zachary missing on Saturday.
Nicole first reported Zachary’s disappearance to Rock Hill police. The case was transferred to the York County Sheriff’s Office after fresh information concerning his last known location was unearthed. Trent Faris from the York County Sheriff’s Office shared that there is currently no reason to suspect foul play. Furtermore, they are following leads which may point to where he was last seen.
A worried Nicole turned detective herself and managed to find out from Zachary’s friends where they had last seen him. “They had dropped him off near the Lesslie Fire Department, and that’s where it’s pretty much all this investigation, all these five weeks have still led us to that same spot,” she disclosed.
Patterson’s family hoped that their continuous search efforts would lead to their son sooner. “Zach touched a lot of people’s lives, a lot of people cared about him, and we just have to keep his name alive until we find him and bring him home,” a family member expressed. Unfortunately, the Sheriff’s office confirmed that the search had ended with finding of Zachary’s body.
Following the discovery, Patterson’s body was transferred out of the county for an autopsy. Officials have clarified that the results determining the cause of death should be available within the next few days, providing a much-needed closure for the grieving family and the community that joined them in their search.
The loss has devastated the family, especially Zachary’s little boy who has lost a caring father at such an early age. The community has rallied left and right to not only help them through their grief but also to ensure that Zachary’s memory continues to live on.
