City of Charlotte Honors Officers at the 44th Annual Police-Community Relations Awards
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 16, 2024) – In a night dedicated to celebrating community policing, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) honored ten outstanding officers at the 44th Annual Police-Community Relations Awards ceremony. The event, which took place on May 16, 2024, recognized officers who have made significant contributions to building positive relationships with residents and communities within Charlotte-Mecklenburg.
Exceptional Officers Recognized
The 2024 award winners include:
- Captain Joan Gallant, Quality Assurance Division
- Officer Doug Gallant Jr., North Tryon Division
- Officer Rafael Garcia, Freedom Division
- Officer Jody Harkey, Aviation Unit
- Officer Amanda Huffman, University City Division
- Officer Jason Humphreys, Hickory Grove Division
- Sergeant Jeffrey Joseph, Central Division
- Officer GF Ritter Jr., Hickory Grove Division
- Officer Marcus Thompson, North Tryon Division
- Officer Daniel Youngblood, ABC Unit
These officers were recognized for their dedication to fostering positive, problem-solving relationships with residents and community groups, ultimately making a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals throughout Charlotte-Mecklenburg.
Community-Nominated Winners
The officer nominations were submitted by community members who have witnessed firsthand the efforts and commitment of these officers to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community. Winners were selected by a panel of judges from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Community Relations Committee.
Youth Recognition
In addition to honoring the officers, the ceremony also recognized two youth who have actively participated in CMPD programs designed to support and empower young individuals in the community. These youth were commended for their engagement and success within the programs.
Commemorating National Police Week
The Police-Community Relations Awards ceremony coincided with National Police Week, which was observed from May 12-18, 2024. The annual event serves as a tribute to law enforcement officers who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, as well as a celebration of the critical role that officers play in maintaining public safety and fostering positive community relationships.
