Uptown Charlotte Kicks Off the Holiday Season with Christmas in the Plaza!
The festive spirit is alive and well in Uptown Charlotte as the community came together for the much-anticipated Christmas in the Plaza event! This delightful gathering was all about celebrating the warmth of the holidays, featuring opportunities for families, furry friends, foodies, and local vendors to come together in a cheerful atmosphere.
Santa’s Arrival Steals the Show
One of the event’s biggest hits was, of course, Santa Claus himself! Children flocked to the plaza for a chance to pose with Kris Kringle, thanks to the generosity of Debra Young Photography, which offered complimentary photos with Santa. The joy in the air was palpable as little ones eagerly jumped into Santa’s lap, beaming with delight while sharing their Christmas wishes.
Don’t Forget the Pets!
But it wasn’t just the kids who had a chance to enjoy the festivities. Winkface Photography was on hand to capture purr-fect moments, providing free holiday photos for pets! Doggies donned their festive scarves and kitties posed in their best holiday attire, making for some truly adorable shots. It was a heartwarming sight that showcased how much love our four-legged friends bring to the season.
Food Galore!
If you were feeling peckish amidst all the merry-making, True Crafted Catering had you covered with their mouth-watering wood-fired pizza. The delicious aroma of freshly baked pizza wafted through the plaza, luring attendees to indulge in some tasty slices. Families gathered around to enjoy their meals while sharing laughs and making memories, creating the perfect backdrop for a holiday celebration.
A Magical Moment: The Tree Lighting
As the evening progressed, excitement built towards the highlight of the event: the Christmas tree lighting. At 5:30 p.m., crowds gathered in front of the towering tree at 301 S. College Center, eagerly awaiting the magical moment. Event organizer, David Stuckey, shared that the idea for this festive gathering blossomed from recent renovations aimed at fostering greater community connection in the Uptown area. “The purpose of the renovation was to bring a place of culture and community to the Uptown area,” he said.
Stuckey went on to explain that the community focus is essential during the holidays: “We began exploring ideas that we can activate it and really bring the community together.” And that’s just what Christmas in the Plaza achieved — a warmhearted celebration that brought smiles and holiday cheer to all who attended.
Supporting Local Small Businesses
Another fantastic aspect of the event was the chance to shop local! Co-organizer, Sarah Nielsen, revealed that over 20 vendors from the Charlotte area participated in the holiday market, providing guests with a wide variety of fantastic gift options. Whether you were searching for unique crafts, thoughtful gifts, or simply browsing to soak in the holiday vibes, the market had something for everyone. Supporting local businesses is crucial during this time, and it was heartening to see such a wonderful turnout.

This year’s Christmas in the Plaza not only ignited the festive spirit but also reminded everyone of the importance of community during the holidays. From joyful children posing with Santa to charming pets showing off their holiday spirit, the event brought warmth and connection back into the heart of the city.
