Two More Arrested in Charlotte School Bus Shooting Incident

Charlotte — On December 16, 2024, a shocking incident occurred in which a Charlotte Mecklenburg School bus was struck by gunfire while carrying children. The shooting took place on East W.T. Harris Blvd near Idlewild Road North, as the bus returned from Albemarle Road Middle School. Fortunately, although the bus was hit, no children were seriously injured; two students suffered only minor injuries from broken glass.

Details of the Incident

The unrest began during a dispute apparently linked to drug activity. This chaotic situation quickly escalated into gunfire, resulting in the school bus being unintentionally caught in the crossfire. At the time of the shooting, there were 30 students and the bus driver onboard. Thankfully, the injuries were limited to kids who were affected by shattered glass, as no one was shot during the incident.

Arrests Made

Authorities wasted no time in responding to the violent situation. Shortly after the shooting, one suspect, Lamarius Ramel Anthony, aged 21, was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon and possession of cocaine and marijuana. He was charged the same day, December 16.

On December 18, a second suspect, Paris Lewis-Bynum, aged 20, was apprehended with charges related to the incident, though the details of his charges are still emerging. The following day, a judge denied him bail, reflecting the seriousness of the charges against him.

A Third Suspect and Foot Chase

On December 19, another suspect, Jaheim Savion Boone, 23, was arrested after a quick foot chase. He is also facing serious charges linked to the shooting. Investigators believe Boone attempted to shoot Lewis-Bynum alongside two other males, further escalating the gunfire.

Boone’s shootout damaged not only the school bus but also a gray 2018 Infiniti Q50—which was hit three times—and a white Chevrolet Express van that bore the brunt of two shots. Boone was denied bail during a court appearance on December 20.

Fourth Arrest

Adding to the unfolding case, on December 20, Joshua Antonyo Woods, 21, became the fourth person arrested. He allegedly fired at Boone and others with an intent to kill. His preliminary hearing showed immediate legal implications, as he was also denied bond after appearing in court on December 23.

Next Steps

The arrests are crucial in ensuring accountability in this dangerous incident that could have had far worse consequences. Both Boone and Lewis-Bynum are scheduled to appear in court again on January 9, 2025, to face their charges. The case continues to develop as more details come to light.

This case has raised concerns over safety, particularly when school children are involved, and the community is looking for resolutions as legal proceedings unfold.
