Charlotte Man Faces 10 Years In Prison For Domestic Violence
Miles Ruder, CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A Charlotte man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of aggravated domestic violence. Peter Caponi, 52, was found guilty by a jury for domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature. The incident happened near Indian Land in Lancaster County on October 10th, 2021. Officials said the victim was returning to her home when Caponi, her ex-boyfriend, was waiting for her in her driveway.
Caponi fired gunshots towards the direction of the car the victim was in. After firing the shots, Caponi chased after the vehicle until it got away and the victim was able to jump out safely. Lancaster County deputies were able to locate Caponi within minutes of a 911 call and detain him during a traffic stop. Police were able to collect multiple pieces of evidence, including the firearm and shell casings. The case went to trial on Monday, April 8th. The guilty verdict was decided on Thursday afternoon. Caponi was also facing a stalking charge but was found not guilty. Caponi will serve his 10-year sentence in the custody of the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
