Charlotte Symphony Unveils Mobile Stage in Corridors of Opportunity
Charlotte, N.C. – April 18, 2024
The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra (CSO) and the City of Charlotte joined forces today to introduce the Symphony’s new mobile stage with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This innovative platform is set to host the CSO Roadshow concert series, offering residents a unique opportunity to engage with and appreciate music in a whole new way.
Increasing Accessibility and Building Connections
City Manager, Marcus Jones, highlighted the shared goal of enhancing accessibility to the arts and removing barriers to enjoying music, arts, and culture in the community. The mobile stage, partially funded by the city through the American Rescue Plan Act, aims to serve as a bridge between the arts and the public. Residents in the Corridors of Opportunity neighborhoods will have the chance to immerse themselves in live music right in their own communities.
A Dynamic Performance Experience
The custom-designed 40-foot trailer can accommodate up to 25-30 Charlotte Symphony musicians and will be the centerpiece for “drive-up” concerts in various neighborhoods throughout Charlotte. The mobile nature of the CSO Roadshow stage allows for versatile performances on streets, plazas, parks, and other communal spaces.
Community-Centric Programming
Charlotte Symphony President and CEO, David Fisk, emphasized the collaborative nature of the CSO Roadshow initiative, where concerts will be tailored to the preferences and tastes of each neighborhood. This approach ensures that the residents are at the core of the concert experience, celebrating local artists and performers while making live orchestral music accessible to all.
Engaging the Neighborhoods
The first CSO Roadshow concert is scheduled for Sunday, April 28, in partnership with the Latin American Coalition. This event marks the beginning of a series of unique and community-focused concerts that will bring the joy of live music to the doorsteps of Charlotte residents.
