‘I Got Away Gospel Tour’ makes stop in Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – The 18th Annual McDonald’s Inspiration Celebration Gospel tour is stopping in Charlotte.
The I Got Away tour is happening Wednesday night at The Park Church. The concert is free, but donations will be taken up to benefit the work of the Ronald McDonald House. Last year, The Ronald McDonald House helped more than 4,322 families with sick kids in 23 countries.
Award-winning gospel singer Pastor Mike Jr. is on the tour with other gospel artists. He says he likes the work of Ronald McDonald House.
“Think about this,” Gospel Singer Pastor Mike Jr. said. “You are a parent, and you get word that your child has to have surgery, and now you have to figure out where am I going to stay. Who’s going to be at the hotel? How are we going to eat? Ronald McDonald House comes alongside these families and gives them lodging – gives them food, and takes a lot of the pressure away cause they are already going through a difficult time.”
In addition to being a singer, he is also the Pastor of Rock Church in Birmingham, AL. He says his church gave a $10,000 donation to the cause.
“People don’t care about how much you know until they know how much you care,” the Pastor said. “I’m glad to be a part of it.”
Also participating in the tour are Gospel artist Anthony Brown and Group TherAPy, Bri Babineaux, and Deitrick Haddon.
In addition to helping sick kids’ families, organizers say the tour will also encourage you to break free and nourish your spirit.
“We believe people need hope right now,” Pastor Mike Jr. said. “We are living in some difficult times and so we get the opportunity to go from city to city. And this is what’s blowing my mind – to see all these kids smile, and I’m just glad to be a part of it.”
The gospel artist believes gospel music brings people together and helps people cope with their challenges.
“Gospel music is the only genre of music where the message plus the melody equals a miracle,” Pastor Mike Jr. said. “We get a chance to come in and say, ‘Hey, smile. And you know when I show up, it’s a party. We going to be in that thing having a good time, and oh, by the way, here’s a donation to let you know, although I don’t live in Charlotte, that we love you.’”
