Grand Opening Celebration

Excitement Builds as Publix Opens in Mooresville

Mooresville, get ready! The beloved Publix Super Market is expanding its presence in the Charlotte area with the grand opening of its brand new store. The store, which measures over 48,000 square feet, is set to welcome customers at 7 a.m. on October 23. Located at 1254 Coddle Creek Highway, this new addition promises to be a delightful shopping destination for local residents.

A Thriving Community Hub

As part of the new Harris Farms Shopping Center, the Publix store will not only provide grocery essentials, but also create local jobs. The supermarket is looking to hire approximately 140 employees, both full-time and part-time. This is a great opportunity for those seeking work in the vibrant and expanding Mooresville community.

The shopping center itself has exciting plans in store. Alongside Publix, it includes retail spaces totaling 11,800 square feet and three outparcels. One of the outparcels has already been leased to a familiar name, McDonald’s. Residents can expect additional conveniences with a dentist’s office and a nail salon also set to join the retail village. Moreover, this center is part of a larger 136-acre mixed-use development that will ultimately offer 165 single-family homes, 168 townhomes, and 382 apartment units. The first phases of these residences are anticipated to become available in mid-2025.

More Stores on the Horizon

Mooresville’s Publix isn’t the only one in the spotlight. This new store follows the opening of another Publix location in North Creek Village, Huntersville, just last year. The supermarket chain has been making waves since launching its first store in North Carolina back in early 2014, located in Ballantyne.

With the competitive grocery landscape in Charlotte reaching a staggering $10.2 billion, Publix aims to make its mark. The chain has plans for at least five more stores across the region, which include:

  • A 55,000-square-foot store with a drive-thru at 11525 Carmel Commons, expected to open early next year.
  • Construction for a new location at The Arboretum is projected to begin by the end of this year or early next year.
  • A cozy 28,000-square-foot store at the 10 Tryon building in uptown Charlotte.
  • A site at the Clear Creek Crossings development, near Albemarle and Rocky River Church roads.
  • A sizable 68,000-square-foot store planned for the corner of Sharon and Colony roads in South Park.

Grocery Competition Heats Up

With 745 grocery stores already in the region, the competition is fierce! Publix faces off not only against Walmart but also local favorites like Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Earth Fare, and Lowes Foods. Additionally, other grocery brands are also planning to open shop in the area:

  • Sprouts Farmers Market aims to open a 21,000-square-foot store next summer at One NoDa Park.
  • There are talks of a new store, possibly similar to Trader Joe’s, coming to Matthews Gateway.
  • Spangler’s is collaborating with county officials for an 8,000-square-foot location north of uptown.
  • Rochester-based Wegmans will debut in Charlotte in 2026 with a massive 110,000-square-foot store.
  • Lastly, the first cooperative grocery store in Charlotte, Three Sisters Market, is set to open next year in an area lacking a supermarket for over 30 years.

Looking Ahead

This autumn is shaping up to be exciting! With Publix’s arrival in Mooresville, locals can look forward to more fresh produce and high-quality goods from one of the area’s most trusted grocery retailers. Keep your calendars marked for that October 23 opening day!
