Brandon Miller and Family Bring Thanksgiving Joy to 250 Families in Charlotte

Brandon Miller and Family Spread Thanksgiving Cheer in Charlotte

This Thanksgiving season, Charlotte is getting a heartwarming boost of generosity, thanks to Brandon Miller, the star forward for the Charlotte Hornets. His family, united by a shared vision of community service, is stepping up to feed 250 families this holiday. That’s right! It’s not just about basketball for Miller; it’s also about giving back.

The Team Miller Foundation: A Family Affair

Brandon isn’t flying solo on this mission. He’s working alongside his parents, Yolanda and Darrell Miller, his siblings, and close relatives through the Team Miller Foundation. Yolanda explained, “The vision has always been making sure we stood in the gap for families and individuals who are in need of food, education, sports, and health.” Talk about keeping it close to home!

Partnering with Harris Teeter and Harding University High

This year, the Millers are teaming up with local grocery giant Harris Teeter to distribute food at Harding University High School. It’s a winning collaboration that’s sure to bring smiles and full bellies to many families. For the past few years, Harding has taken the lead in handing out food to students and families through an on-campus pantry. However, Principal Carissa Johnson-Scott mentioned they were facing some challenges this year. “Our current inventory wouldn’t allow us to serve as many families as we’d hoped,” she said.

Perfect Timing Saves the Day

Just when things were looking a bit grim, Coach Cory Baker from the Harding basketball team brought some exciting news to Principal Johnson-Scott. “I was in my office, and he said the Team Miller Foundation wants to partner to do a food drive. I said, what?” It seems like fate was on their side! Johnson-Scott couldn’t believe how perfectly timed the offer was. “It was Tuesday of this week, and today is Friday, so I’m ecstatic!” she exclaimed.

A Connection Made Through Community Service

It all began when the Millers connected with Harding’s boys basketball team during a community event organized by the Muggsy Bogues Family Foundation. Yolanda described the team as “the sweetest, just well-mannered, respectful, young men.” That kind of heart is something you can’t ignore! They felt inspired to do something special for the school, and now, that something is happening!

Expanding the Reach of the Holiday Food Distribution

With the ongoing partnership, the initial plan to feed just 60 families has transformed into a much bigger event, aiming to provide food for 250 families. Johnson-Scott reflected on that pivotal Tuesday, saying, “With their partnership, we are able to feed 250.” Now that’s a major win for the community!

Turkey Time with BMill

Mark your calendars, folks! The Turkey Time with BMill event is happening at 9 a.m. this Saturday at Harding High. It’s open to the first 250 families, including those already benefiting from the school’s pantry services. The Millers are making sure that everyone walks away with a little more than they had before.

Celebrating the Spirit of Giving

As we dive into this season of gratitude, it’s heartwarming to see local athletes like Brandon Miller giving back to the community. Charlotte is lucky to have a superstar who truly cares about making a difference beyond the court. So, as the horns sound for Thanksgiving, moments like this remind us all about the importance of coming together and supporting one another.

Happy Thanksgiving, Charlotte! Let’s continue to spread kindness and support in our communities!
