Charlotte Adjusts Waste Collection Schedule for the Holiday Season

Charlotte’s Holiday Waste Collection Schedule: What You Need to Know!

Hey there, Charlotte residents! With the holiday season right around the corner, it’s time to talk trash—well, not literally! We’re diving into the City of Charlotte’s Solid Waste Services collection schedule for the upcoming festivities. Brace yourselves, because things are about to get a little different!

Thanksgiving Tidbits: Revisions to the Collection Schedule

First things first, mark your calendars! On Thursday, November 28, there will be no collection of garbage, recycling, yard waste, or bulky items in observance of Thanksgiving Day. That means if you usually have your trash taken away on Thursdays, you’ll need to wait just a little longer for that service.

But don’t fret! The collection will operate on a one-day delay. So, if you’re typically a Thursday customer, your collection will now take place on Friday, November 29. Meanwhile, Friday customers will see their trash collected on Saturday, November 30. And let’s not forget, it’s a green recycling collection week, so be sure to separate your recyclables accordingly!

Christmas Cheer: Important Dates for Your Waste

Solid Waste Services will also pause their operations on Wednesday, December 25, so no need to haul out the garbage that day! Collections will shift to a one-day delay once again—meaning Wednesday’s pickups will happen on Thursday, December 26, and Friday’s usual pickups will be on Saturday, December 28.

And guess what? It gets even better! Just like with Thanksgiving, this will also be a green recycling week. So, if you’re planning on entertaining or just trimming the tree, keep those recyclables handy.

A Fresh Start with New Year’s Collection

January 1. On this week, the city will resume picking up garbage, recycling, yard waste, and bulky items just like it normally would—it’s back to business as usual!

However, this week will be a little special, too, as it will be an orange recycling collection week. So get ready to kick off the new year with a clean start and some eco-friendly vibes!

Christmas Tree Disposal: How to Get Rid of Your Tree

January 1. Be sure to place your tree at the curb for yard waste collection—just remember, your tree needs to be free of all lights, decorations, and tinsel!

If you’ve opted for an artificial tree this year, you’ll need to schedule a bulky item collection. Don’t worry, scheduling is super easy! Just give 311 a quick call, or you can set it up online. It’s as simple as that!
