AAA Activates ‘Tow to Go’ In Charlotte for Independence Day Weekend

In an effort to keep impaired drivers off the roads during the Independence Day weekend, AAA is activating its ‘Tow to Go’ program in Charlotte, North Carolina, and other select states, offering a safe ride for would-be impaired drivers and their vehicles. The service will kick off from 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 3rd and will last until 6 a.m. Monday, July 8th.

‘Tow to Go’ Keeping Roads Safe for Over 25 Years

The ‘Tow to Go’ program, provided by The Auto Club Group, has been a lifeline for citizens during the festive seasons for over 25 years, removing nearly 30,000 impaired drivers from U.S. roadways. When someone calls ‘Tow to Go’, a tow truck will be dispatched to transport both the vehicle and its owner to a safe location within a 10-mile radius, free of charge. Moreover, this service applies to everyone, whether they are a AAA member or not.

AAA’s Stance on Safe Driving

“By providing this program, AAA gives drivers no excuse for driving under the influence of drugs, alcohol or impairing medications,” said a spokesperson for the Auto Club Group in the Carolinas. They encouraged citizens to plan ahead during celebrations by asking a friend to be a designated driver or using a ride-sharing service. The spokesperson added, “If those plans fall through, you can call Tow to Go and AAA will arrange for a safe ride for you.”

‘Tow to Go’ Service Areas and Guidelines

The ‘Tow to Go’ program is available in the following areas: Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, North Dakota, Nebraska, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Colorado (Denver), North Carolina (Charlotte), and Indiana (Fort Wayne/South Bend). They also provided a phone number for calling ‘Tow to Go’, which is (855) 2-TOW-2-GO or (855) 286-9246.

There are certain guidelines attached to this initiative. The service will not be taking any appointments in advance and is designed as a safety net for those who find themselves without a driving plan, such as a designated driver, unexpectedly. In certain circumstances, if a tow truck isn’t available, AAA may make alternative arrangements to get the individual home safely. The organization also mentioned that the ‘Tow to Go’ service might not be available in rural areas or during severe weather conditions.

A Positive Impact on Road Safety

As the Independence Day weekend typically sees increased cases of impaired driving, such proactive measures from organizations like AAA could significantly help reduce road mishaps during the holiday period. Compared to other days, July 4th historically witnesses a substantial rise in the number of road accidents owing to impaired driving.

By offering this preventative service as a safety net, AAA aims to encourage would-be impaired drivers to think twice before getting behind the wheel. Whether you’re a member of AAA or not, the free ‘Tow to Go’ service ensures that everyone can stay safe on the road during this festive week.

Stay Safe, Celebrate Responsible

As we all gear up to celebrate our nation’s independence, it’s imperative to remember that our responsiblity as citizens extend to ensuring not only our safety but the safety of others as well. If you find yourself impaired and without a designated driver this Independence Day, remember, ‘Tow to Go’ is just a phone call away.
