Armed Suspect Injured in Officer-Involved Shooting in North Charlotte
Following the judicial order, bodycam footage linked to an officer-involved shooting that occurred in North Charlotte in February was released on Monday. The incident, which involved an armed man allegedly involved in drug activity, resulted in the aforementioned man suffering non-lethal gunshot wounds.
The Incident
The incident in question took place on a Thursday morning, February 8, on Beatties Ford Road’s 2100 block. The area is under constant surveillance by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC) as part of its crime reduction initiatives.
RTCC’s video surveillance captured a man extracting a firearm from his waistband and manipulating it before concealing it again. Officers were quickly dispatched to the scene. Upon their arrival, they reportedly observed what they believed to be a drug transaction taking place between the armed man, later identified as Timothy Deangelo Moore, 33, and another individual in a parking lot on Beatties Ford Road.
The Chase
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), when officers approached Mr. Moore, he fled on foot. Officers gave chase, repeatedly shouting at him to drop his weapon. During the pursuit, Mr. Moore reportedly drew his firearm, turning his body in the direction of one of the CMPD officers.
Perceiving an imminent lethal threat, the said officer fired a single shot at Moore, causing him to fall. Medical aid was immediately provided at the scene, and a firearm was recovered.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Moore was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Upon release from the hospital, he was taken into custody. Mr. Moore now faces charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, resisting a public officer, and carrying a concealed weapon.
Following his release from the Mecklenburg County Jail, a scheduling conference has been set for July 1, 2024, in Moore’s criminal case. The North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys reviewed the case and deemed the officer’s actions justified.
