Exciting things are happening in the heart of Charlotte this December! With the Jumpman Invitational right around the corner, local art lovers and college basketball fans alike are in for a treat. The Charlotte Sports Foundation has teamed up with Truist to present the second annual ‘Art with Air’, a unique exhibition that dives deep into the fascinating world of college basketball.
The theme of this year’s exhibition is all about the evolution of basketball. Local and western North Carolina artists have been commissioned to showcase their interpretations of how this thrilling sport has changed over the years. From its humble beginnings to becoming a major cultural phenomenon, the evolution of basketball is a story worth telling, and these artists are ready to bring it to life!
Mark your calendars! Art with Air will be on display from December 16th to 18th at the popular McColl Center, located at 721 N Tryon St. Doors will be swinging open from 12 PM to 6 PM, and best of all, this artistic journey is completely free to attend!
Whether you’re a hardcore basketball fanatic or just someone who enjoys a bit of creativity, this exhibition promises to be an engaging experience. You can expect thought-provoking pieces that might take you back in time or forward into the future of the sport, as the artists share their perspective on what basketball means to them.
The excitement doesn’t stop at the art gallery. Coinciding with Art with Air, the Jumpman Invitational will showcase some sensational matchups. On the evening of December 17th, basketball fans can cheer for their teams as the Florida men’s basketball squad goes head-to-head with the North Carolina Tar Heels at Spectrum Center at 7 PM. But wait, there’s more! Following that, Michigan women’s basketball will battle it out against Oklahoma starting at 9:30 PM. Tickets for this fantastic night of hoops begin at a reasonable $59.20.
If you’re thinking about heading to Uptown Charlotte for this thrilling weekend, just a little heads up: parking tends to get a bit pricey, and traffic can be a hassle during major events. But don’t let that discourage you! Public transportation is a fantastic alternative. The CityLYNX Gold Line Streetcar and the Lynx Blue Line both have stops conveniently located right outside Spectrum Center at the CTC/Arena Station. So hop on board and let someone else do the driving!
With so much happening in Charlotte, from the art exhibition to the basketball antics, there’s no shortage of excitement this December. Make sure to check out the Art with Air exhibition and catch some games while you’re at it. This is a remarkable opportunity to experience the cultural and athletic vibrancy of Charlotte!
So, gather your friends, plan your visit, and prepare to be dazzled by both art and athletic prowess. It’s going to be a fun-filled weekend that you surely won’t want to miss!
