Manolo began developing business talents during his service in the Colombian Navy, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Naval Engineering and rose through the ranks to become a special forces commander. Manolo, however, opted to travel to the United States in pursuit of a brighter future following years of conflict and turmoil in his homeland. He arrived in Miami in 2000 with only two sets of pants, two shirts, a pair of shoes, some cash, and no knowledge of English.
Manolo received a scholarship to study at King University in Bristol, Tennessee, after a year of trying to make ends meet. He started studies in the fall of 2001 while working as a dishwasher at the same institution. In the spring of 2004, he received his BA in Modern Languages from Magna Cum Laude.
The First Hispanic Bakery in Charlotte
Manolo relocated to Charlotte, NC, a few years later, with more expertise under his belt, and became active and interested in Charlotte’s first Hispanic bakery in a promising and fast-growing city. In 2011, Manolo purchased Las Delicias Bakery, which he renamed Manolo’s Bakery in 2018.
Every morning, the Manolo Bakery exhibit is brimming with fresh cakes in a broad range of flavors, including Tres Leches, Mocha, Chocolate, and Passion Fruit, as well as Vanilla, Red Velvet, and many others.
