The city of Charlotte is buzzing with excitement as the Charlotte 49ers Men’s Basketball team takes the final step in preparing for the 2024-25 season. The team has secured the services of Maryland high school standout Benjamin “Ben” Bradford, with this signing finalizing their roster for the forthcoming season.
Ben, a product of Gaithersburg High School, Maryland, is set to bring an impressive athletic resume to Charlotte. Before his transition to the 49ers, Ben also spent a post-graduate year at The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Connecticut in 2024. Standing at 6’5″ and weighing in at 180 pounds, this sturdy guard has shown immense promise on the court. He was an All-NEPSAC selection and Founders’ League Player of the Year at Loomis Chaffee. His size, skills, and overall character were influential factors that caught the attention of the staff at Charlotte.
“We are pleased to announce the addition of Ben Bradford to our roster for this coming season”, said Head Men’s Basketball Coach Aaron Fearne. He added, “Our staff was drawn to Ben’s positional size and skill level as well as his overall demeanor and character.” Coach Fearne also expressed his confidence in Ben’s potential and his belief that his finest spells on the court are yet to come.
Before moving on to his postgraduate year, Bradford enjoyed a highly successful high school career at Gaithersburg. During his senior year, he secured a place in the first-team all-state selection and was selected as a first-team All-Met by the Washington Post – no small feat for a young athlete. He averaged an impressive 27 points per game as a senior.
The 49ers had an impressive run in the 2023-24 season, closing with a 19-12 overall record. Their performance was commendable, leading to a third-place finish in their first season in the American Athletic Conference. This was the Charlotte’s best league finish since 2006. Coach Fearne, who moved from interim head coach to permanent during the season, plans on applying the lessons from their previous season to the next in order to further bolster the team’s success.
Bradford is the seventh newcomer to join the 49ers for the upcoming season and is the sole first-year player in the squad. His arrival signals the end of the recruitment process for the 2024-25 roster. His signing demonstrates the team’s commitment to infusing young blood into the squad and enhancing their overall performance on the court.
The entire Charlotte community is eagerly waiting for the 2024-25 season, anticipating the newly-revamped Charlotte 49ers to take their performance to the next level.
