Charlotte’s Thrilling Arts and Culture Scene: What’s Coming This Fall

Hey there, Charlotte residents and visitors! Get ready to dive into a vibrant season of arts and culture as our beloved city is bursting with exciting events, exhibitions, and performances this fall and beyond! Whether you’re a history buff, a foodie, or someone who just loves exploring new experiences, there’s something for everyone in Charlotte’s cultural lineup.

Charlotte Museum of History Unveils Exciting Programming

First up, the Charlotte Museum of History is refreshing its offerings with Thursdays at the Museum, kicking off last year. These special evenings focus on various historical topics and promise to be engaging and fun. Remember that amazing event about Scotch-Irish history linked to the hit series Outlander? It was a hit, drawing in around 40 attendees, and inspired plans for even more delightful evenings packed with excitement.

For those thirsty for knowledge and a good time, this fall has a lot in store. There will be beer, wine, and cider tastings, along with trivia nights, paint-and-sip events, and a spotlight on the museum’s core collection to engage all ages. Mark your calendars! On September 14, culinary historian Michael Twitty will demonstrate cooking techniques and dish out samples from the recently reconstructed kitchen at the historic 1774 Rock House.

A Celebration of Heritage and History

This year is special for the 1774 Alexander Rock House as it marks a remarkable 250 years since its establishment! Join us on October 19 for a birthday celebration highlighting the life of its first resident, Hezekiah Alexander, while exploring the broader narratives of those whose lives intertwined with his. The museum aims to touch on a wider history by addressing the experiences of his family as well as the local Catawba community.

As we look ahead, the museum is also gearing up for the African American Heritage Festival, titled Black Country, on February 20-22, 2025. This much-anticipated event will delve into the themes of rural versus urban living, uniting different communities through shared experiences, with performances by the Ebony Hillbillies and more!

Discovery Place Brings Jane Goodall to Life

Meanwhile, Discovery Place is excited to announce its upcoming National Geographic exhibit, Becoming Jane, from November 16 through next spring. This captivating exhibit shines a spotlight on renowned primatologist Jane Goodall, celebrating her groundbreaking work with chimpanzees alongside her conservation efforts. Visitors can expect an immersive experience featuring a life-sized hologram of Goodall herself.

Heather Norton, chief science officer, highlights the importance of making complex themes accessible. Visitors will have the chance to engage with different interactive displays, leaving a mark on a conservation pledge wall while gaining insights into chimpanzee behavior. Now that’s a fantastic way to connect with nature!

Levine Museum of the New South and Cultural Celebrations

Lastly, don’t overlook the opportunities at the Levine Museum of the New South. Their current exhibition, Charlotte: Moving Forward, Looking Back, extends a warm invitation to anyone curious about the city’s rich history. With various events scheduled featuring live music and storytelling like ÚltimaNota Live Acoustic on September 12, there’s no shortage of cultural experiences.

The museum plans to celebrate the traditional Day of the Dead on November 2 with a family-friendly festival. This free event will blend lively singing, dancing, crafting, and more, emphasizing our city’s delightful multicultural community.
