Charlotte Says Goodbye: Wentworth & Fenn Bakery to Close After Holiday Season

Charlotte Business Bids Farewell: Wentworth & Fenn Bakery to Close at Camp North End

Charlotte is no stranger to the hustle and bustle of its local businesses, and now it’s saying a heartfelt goodbye to Wentworth & Fenn, a beloved neighborhood bakery. After making its mark at Camp North End, this all-scratch bakery has announced it will close its doors following the holiday season, leaving many in the community feeling bittersweet.

A Tough Decision

The team behind Wentworth & Fenn took to Instagram to share the sad news. In their post, they expressed, “It hurts my heart to announce the closure of our storefront at Camp North End.” Anyone who’s been to the bakery knows how dedicated the owner, Samantha Ward, and her talented team have been. They cited several challenging factors that influenced this tough decision, including rising costs, inconsistent foot traffic, and certain things that were simply out of their control.

Remembering the Good Times

When Wentworth & Fenn opened at Camp North End back in 2020, it quickly became a center for delicious custom cakes, pastries, and artisan breads, attracting a loyal fan base. Before settling into their current location, Samantha was whipping up her delicious pastries out of a camper and at various pop-ups. Her dream finally came to life in a place she felt was just right. “The energy and experience at Camp North End is very important to us,” she said in a past interview, emphasizing the significance of their location.

“There’s a ton of room for growth and building relationships with customers,” Samantha noted, highlighting the deep connection Wentworth & Fenn established with the community over the years. They even closed their Latta Arcade location earlier in the year to invest more time and effort into the Camp North End spot. Sadly, even with these efforts, the bakery’s team faced increasing struggles.

What’s Next?

While an official closing date hasn’t been announced yet, the bakery plans to operate as usual until around January. For regulars and newcomers alike, it’s an opportunity to savor one last buttery croissant or decadent dessert that has made Wentworth & Fenn a local treasure.

In their heartfelt announcement, the Wentworth & Fenn team shared, “We’re really gonna miss this space … So much has happened over the years. It’s difficult and absolutely bittersweet.” They expressed immense gratitude to the community for their support, “Thank you to those who have shown support and will continue to after we leave Camp North End.”

Continued Love for Local Businesses

Even though the bakery is shutting its doors at its current location, there’s still hope for what’s to come. Ward hinted that “what’s next for W&F will be announced at a later date,” leaving the door open for future plans. She added, “We love the community and want everyone to continue to support small businesses all across Charlotte.”

As we all know, change is a part of life; sometimes “this is just how the cookie crumbles,” as Samantha put it. The closure of Wentworth & Fenn marks the end of an era at Camp North End, but it also sparks curiosity about the bakery’s next adventure and reminds everyone to cherish the small businesses that add flavor to our lives.

So, coffee lovers and pastry fans in Charlotte, make sure to stop by Wentworth & Fenn while you still can. Let’s show them how much we’ll miss this slice of sweetness in our community!
