In the bustling city of Charlotte, where business moves at lightning speed, there’s a new voice in the financial sector, ready to shake things up! Meet Justin Rutledge, the newly appointed market president for Truist Financial Corporation. Stepping into this role in December 2023, Rutledge isn’t just another suit in the office; he’s determined to extend Truist’s influence and help local businesses thrive.
With over 20 years under his belt at Truist, Rutledge is no stranger to the banking world. Before making his way back to Charlotte in 2022, he led the bank’s operations in Fort Worth, Texas for seven years. Now, he’s excited to bring his expertise to the Queen City, eager to embrace new challenges and opportunities. “Charlotte is a growth market for us,” Rutledge mentioned, emphasizing his commitment to client satisfaction in this flourishing region.
So, what’s on Rutledge’s agenda? According to him, it’s all about a three-pronged approach: client planning, joint calling, and new client acquisition.
In just eight months of Rutledge’s leadership, the team has expanded significantly! They’ve brought in new commercial bankers, middle-market bankers, and treasury consultants. It’s all part of a grand plan to ensure that Truist continues to provide stellar service while growing its presence in the area. “Our focus is on nurturing our existing clients,” said Rutledge, “but we also see this as a great chance to prospect for new business.”
However, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing. Rutledge admitted that the biggest challenge so far has been getting to know the Charlotte community. “We have our objectives as a bank, but understanding what’s important to Charlotte is essential,” he added. This understanding will help Rutledge support communities more effectively.
One area of focus is affordable housing. Rutledge sees a pressing need for this in the rapidly growing city. “We can make a difference by partnering with organizations like Habitat for Humanity,” he suggested, highlighting efforts to address housing needs through initiatives like building homes and supporting new facilities in collaboration with local nonprofits.
As Rutledge looks towards the future, he feels optimistic about the banking industry. With changes on the horizon regarding interest rates and a promising economy, he believes that Truist is well-positioned to help businesses in Charlotte. “We’re aiming to assist the 43% of businesses that may have financing needs in the next six to twelve months,” he explained.
Success starts from the top, and Rutledge knows that sharing wins and fostering positivity is vital. Every Monday, the team at Truist holds sales meetings to reflect on successes and lessons learned, ensuring that motivation is high and everyone is aligned in their goals.
As Truist continues to expand its footprint, Rutledge is eager to make a meaningful impact on Charlotte’s financial landscape. With his experience and innovative approach, there’s no doubt that this city is in for exciting times ahead!
