A man was arrested in uptown Charlotte after allegedly inappropriately touching a female on a bus earlier this week. The incident occurred on East 7th Street and was reported to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department around 1 a.m. on Tuesday.
According to an arrest sheet filed by the police, the bus driver identified the suspect as 26-year-old Dhrupalkumar Patel. The victim stated that Patel had placed his hand underneath her clothes, prompting the sexual assault call. Patel admitted to touching the woman but claimed it was an accident.
Patel was subsequently arrested and charged with sexual battery. Court records indicate that he was given a $3,500 unsecured bond. It was also noted that Patel is not a resident of the United States and was traveling to Boston at the time of the incident.
The arrest of Patel highlights the importance of swift action by law enforcement in addressing incidents of sexual assault. The victim’s courage in reporting the incident led to the apprehension of the suspect, ensuring that appropriate legal measures are taken.
Instances of inappropriate behavior and sexual misconduct must not be tolerated in any form. The arrest of the individual involved serves as a reminder that such actions have serious consequences and will be met with legal repercussions.
