Hey there, Charlotte! This month is truly special as we celebrate our 16th birthday of having a voice that’s independent, Black-owned, and passionately led right here in our vibrant community. Yep, it’s been 16 fantastic years of delivering news, information, and commentary tailored for the lives of our readers in Charlotte-Mecklenburg. Can you believe it?
Reflecting on our journey, it truly takes a village. We have depended on the kindness and support of our readers to sustain this mission. Every donation, big or small, has made a significant impact on our ability to keep this platform running. As we look toward the future, we invite everyone who cherishes locally-driven stories and events to consider contributing to ensure that we can continue for another 16 years!
Now, speaking of excitement and community spirit, mark your calendars because on December 18, Dianne Reeves will grace the Knight Theatre stage in Charlotte alongside the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. Talk about a concert you won’t want to miss! Known for her incredible vocal style and artistry, Reeves plans to sprinkle holiday magic inspired by her beautiful 2004 Christmas album, “Christmas Time is Here.”
We caught up with Dianne for a sneak peek into what makes her tick and what we can expect during her performance. When asked about her musical influences, she shared that it’s all about the time and that everyone has their own unique sound. Isn’t that true? We all carry pieces of the music that inspire us!
Finding your own voice, particularly in art and especially in music, can be a journey in itself. Dianne firmly believes in the importance of hard work and continuous exploration. “You do the work and you’ll find it,” she said, which speaks volumes to every aspiring artist out there.
Jazz has evolved so much over the years, and Dianne has been at the forefront of some of that change. “Every generation brings something,” she said. The power of young artists, especially women, emerging in the field today contributes to this evolution. Their unique sounds and disciplined voices are leading the way and refreshing the scene in ways that delight longtime fans of the genre and newcomers alike.
With such energy and passion, we can only imagine how incredible the performance will be! Dianne mentioned she’s really looking forward to her collaboration with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra as it’s a first for her. What a delightful pairing! Attendees can expect a wonderful mix of stories and a joyous holiday atmosphere filled with lots of merry mention.
As we gear up to celebrate our own milestone while also enjoying the beautiful music that defines the holiday season, let’s come together as a community. Support local media by considering a donation to ensure that independent voices like ours can thrive. Every bit counts, and we genuinely appreciate you being a part of this journey.
So, Charlotte, let’s get excited for Dianne Reeves and the amazing music she plans to share! While also celebrating 16 years of news that matters to us. Here’s to another 16 years of community, culture, and creativity!
