Charlotte Area Congressmen Set to Faceoff to be Next NC Attorney General

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – While North Carolina voters headed to the polls to cast a primary ballot, two candidates running for attorney general were tied up in Washington D.C. 14th District Congressman Jeff Jackson won the democratic primary, while 8th District Republican Congressman Dan Bishop didn’t have an opponent and automatically advanced. The two neighboring congressmembers will face off in November.

Jeff Jackson’s Victory

When reached for comment, Congressman Bishop expressed his desire to come back to North Carolina to see a restoration of law and order, focusing on supporting law enforcement and holding convicted criminals accountable. Meanwhile, in an email following his victory in the primary, Congressman Jackson emphasized the need for an Attorney General who will defend children from dangers like fentanyl and online threats, go after scammers who target bank accounts, and hold corporations accountable for pollution.

Bishop’s Campaign Goals

During the interview, Congressman Bishop spoke about his commitment to making change and bringing about a restoration of law and order, while also highlighting the importance of supporting law enforcement and ensuring accountability for criminals. He acknowledged the upcoming challenge of campaigning against his congressional district neighbor, Jeff Jackson, who he noted had previously run for Attorney General when the congressional seat was unavailable due to redistricting.

Jackson’s Priorities

While Jackson’s press secretary did not respond to requests for an interview, the campaign’s email emphasized the candidate’s focus on protecting children from various threats, cracking down on scammers and corporations that break the rules and pollute the environment. Jackson’s voting record also showed his commitment to issues such as combating the opioid crisis and addressing cybersecurity threats.

Upcoming Showdown

As the two congressmen prepare to face off in the race for North Carolina Attorney General, their differing priorities and approaches to key issues such as law enforcement, criminal accountability, and environmental protection are likely to define the campaign. With both candidates emphasizing their commitment to serving the people of North Carolina and upholding the rule of law, the upcoming election is expected to be closely watched by voters across the state.
