In a unanimous vote, city council approved $3.6 million in grant funds aimed at supporting workforce development initiatives. This decision marks a sizable investment in the city’s future and underscores a commitment to empowering its residents and businesses.
“We are thrilled to announce the approval of these substantial grant funds for workforce development,” said Mayor Vi Lyles. “Workforce development is a strategic priority for this council, and this investment reflects our dedication to creating a vibrant and inclusive economy where all residents have the opportunity to thrive.”
The grants will be distributed to a diverse range of organizations dedicated to providing training programs, career navigation services, and supportive services to job seekers in Charlotte. These funds will directly benefit over 500 individuals seeking to improve their employability, as well as businesses looking to strengthen their workforce.

“Our city is only as strong as its workforce,” said Danielle Frazier, special assistant to the city manager. “By partnering with local organizations, we aim to equip our community with the skills and resources needed for success. Providing these grants will allow the city to reach even more individuals who are eager to advance their careers and contribute meaningfully to our local economy. We are grateful to the city council for its shared vision and support.”
These grants are funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). Programming will begin this spring.
