Looking back, Mecklenburg County frequently appears on lists associated with low voter turnout in the state. This trend has been troubling, especially for high-profile races such as Cheri Beasley’s campaign for Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court in 2020, where she lost by a minuscule margin of just 400 votes.
