Charlotte’s Economic Mobility Boost with Ally Charitable Foundation’s Generous Grants

In the vibrant city of Charlotte, a significant wave of support is set to uplift the community through a generous initiative by the Ally Charitable Foundation. As part of their ongoing commitment to make a positive impact, the foundation has recently announced an impressive allocation of $1.3 million in grant funding to over 50 nonprofit organizations in the area this year. This funding is aimed primarily at enhancing economic mobility by focusing on affordable housing, financial education, and workforce development.

A Substantial Commitment to Change

This year’s grant marks a continuing chapter in Ally Charitable Foundation’s philanthropic journey, with a total commitment of $3.6 million in grants being distributed across its core hubs, including Charlotte and Detroit. The organizations receiving this much-needed financial support are dedicated to making strides in the focused areas of need, fostering growth and stability within the community.

Among the local nonprofits benefiting from this generous grant are notable names like Digi-Bridge, Circle de Luz, CrossRoads Corp. for Affordable Housing and Community Development, Gardhouse Limited, and Goodwill Southern Piedmont. Each of these organizations plays a crucial role in not just supporting individuals, but also in crafting a brighter future for Charlotte’s economy.

Digi-Bridge: A Success Story

Take Digi-Bridge, for example. This nonprofit has been a vital partner with the Ally Charitable Foundation for the past six years, receiving funding to empower underrepresented students with access to vital STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) education. Over the years, hundreds of Ally volunteers have taken part, building STEAMkits and mentoring students, which fosters both educational growth and vital career exposure. Alyssa Sharpe, CEO of Digi-Bridge, emphasizes the importance of these initiatives, stating, “As a digital bank, they understand the importance of digital skilling for today’s youth to be better prepared for the technology jobs of the future.”

Charlotte’s Journey Towards Economic Mobility

Recent studies show that Charlotte is on the right path to improving its economic mobility. Notably, the city jumped to a commendable 38th place among the 50 largest cities in economic mobility, a significant improvement from being last in this area just a decade prior. In fact, Charlotte ranks third among metro areas that have achieved the most improvement in mobility over the past ten years. Mike Rizer, president of the Ally Charitable Foundation, referred to this progress as a “wake up call”, highlighting the collaborative effort from all community sectors to tackle significant issues head-on.

Importance of Partnerships for Progress

Driving change requires cooperation, and public-private partnerships are essential in this journey. Ally has firmly positioned itself within the community, regularly evaluating key issues through stakeholder assessments. These assessments look to identify areas requiring improvement, gathering feedback from community leaders, nonprofits, and local authorities to strategize effectively. Rizer emphasizes, “We want to make it a good place to live for the community and for our employees.”

With around 50% of Ally’s employees dedicating time to volunteer efforts, this commitment to community service illustrates a strong culture of giving back. In stark contrast, only 23% of Americans engage in volunteer work. Rizer believes that relationships are critical to changing opportunities in Charlotte, stating the foundation’s mission is to not only support nonprofits but also expand their reach and impact.

Looking Ahead

As Charlotte continues on this path of growth and improvement, the Ally Charitable Foundation’s economic mobility grants will undeniably play a crucial role in enhancing the lives of countless individuals in the area. The foundation not only recognizes its responsibility but also embraces the opportunity to foster positive change, ensuring a thriving community for all.

With community support and collaboration, the future of economic mobility in Charlotte looks brighter than ever. As the city climbs the ranks and continues to forge partnerships, the impact of these endeavors will resonate for years to come.
