Charlotte’s Food Scene Thrives with New Openings and Bittersweet Closures

Charlotte’s Vibrant Food Scene Welcomes New Players!

Hey there, foodie friends! If you’re living in or near Charlotte, you’re in for a delightful treat as the city’s culinary scene is bubbling over with exciting new establishments and some bittersweet farewells. November was quite a ride for our local eateries and craft breweries, with some notable expansions and closures that are reshuffling the dining landscape!

Krazy Curry: A Tantalizing Taste of India and Nepal

First up, we’ve got some delicious news for fans of international cuisine. Krazy Curry, an authentic Indian-Nepali restaurant, is gearing up for its much-anticipated opening in January at One South, located at 101 N. Tryon St. This fantastic 3,132-square-foot space will replace the recently closed Salsarita’s Fresh Mexican Grill, bringing a whole new flavor to the area!

Imagine diving into mouthwatering curries, flavorful momos, and aromatic spices right in the heart of uptown! Whether you’re a fan of spicy dishes or prefer milder flavors, Krazy Curry is set to have something for everyone. No doubt, it’s going to be a hot spot for lunch breaks and dinner dates alike!

Olde Mecklenburg Brewery Expands Its Reach

Now onto the craft beer scene! The beloved Olde Mecklenburg Brewery is on the move and making waves. They recently broke ground on a large new complex in Mount Holly that will span nearly 7,000 square feet! The facility will feature a taproom and brau haus beside the picturesque Catawba River, with an expected opening time around the end of 2025. Now that’s something to look forward to!

But that’s not all! OMB isn’t stopping there – they’ve also expanded their presence at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. With a charming 1,785-square-foot biergarten now open, travelers can kick back with a local brew before jetting off. With their main spot in lower South End and another location at The Bowl at Ballantyne opening earlier this year, OMB is spreading the joy of craft beer far and wide!

Bittersweet Goodbyes

Pharr Mill Brewing Co., which has closed its two locations in the Charlotte area. This includes their brewery and barbecue food truck in Harrisburg, along with their taproom and full-service restaurant in Concord. It’s a loss that will surely be felt by many loyal fans!

In addition to Pharr Mill, gourmet bakery Wentworth & Fenn at Camp North End is bidding farewell, as is Port City Club in Cornelius. However, there’s a silver lining! Port City Club has reopened under new ownership as Lake House Wine Bar & Grill. Here’s hoping they bring a fresh vibe to the scene!

New Spots to Savor!

Rooster’s Wood-Fired Kitchen, which debuted its exciting new prototype at The Bowl development last month. If you enjoy smoky, savory dishes cooked to perfection, this could be your new go-to spot!

Looking ahead, it’s also worth mentioning that another unique spot, Antagonist, a craft cocktail and coffee venture, is slated to open in the South End/Dilworth area come spring 2025. And keep your eyes peeled for Bartaco, which is planning to bring its fresh take on tacos and rice bowls to South End after their successful launch at Birkdale Village in Huntersville earlier this year. Yum!

Wrap-Up

So there you have it, Charlotte! Whether you’re excited for the new flavors coming in or feeling nostalgic about the places we’ve lost, it’s clear that our city’s food and drink scene is as dynamic as ever. Stay tuned for more delicious updates, and make it a point to support your local restaurants and breweries!
