Charlotte, N.C. — Exciting news for art lovers and creative souls! The city is set to unveil the TAOH Outdoor Gallery, Charlotte’s first graffiti park, this Saturday. This innovative space is all about giving people a canvas to express themselves without the fear of consequences associated with street art.
Co-founder Osiris Rain is thrilled to see this project finally come to life. “This was intentionally set up to fill a gap that Charlotte did not have,” Rain explained. “We wanted people to be able to come and express themselves without any risk of getting in trouble for painting in public.” The idea stemmed from the need for a safe and accessible space for artists of all backgrounds.
The park has come together thanks to a generous grant from the 2024 Opportunity Fund, provided by the City of Charlotte Arts and Culture Advisory Board. Over the past two years, this fund has contributed more than $2.7 million in investments, promoting art and culture across the city.
Rain further shared his excitement, mentioning how rapidly the project materialized. “This has been in the works for a very long time. Thankfully, the Opportunity Fund came through, and literally within receiving the funds, we had this built in a week!” he said, beaming with pride.
The park features more than 20 walls erected in late July, all designed to be easily relocated and reassembled. This means that anyone can come, leave their mark, and watch as others transform their creations. It’s a dynamic and ever-changing canvas!
Co-founder Sydney Duarte highlighted the park’s mission to foster community ties. “This space is for the community to come and create, be, and meet other community members,” Duarte explained. “It’s all about expressing themselves, trying something new, and pushing themselves out of their comfort zone.” It seems the gallery is not just a place for artwork, but a hub for connection.
In just a short time since its unofficial beginnings, over 75 unique works have emerged from local artists and visitors from around the globe, including talent from the United Kingdom and Australia. “We had no idea how hungry the community was for something like this,” Rain mentioned, amazed by the response. “It’s not just the accessibility for painting, but the chance to interact with others. People can come here, meet new faces, and feel like they belong.”
To celebrate its grand opening, the TAOH Outdoor Gallery will host a special event on Saturday, September 14, from 2 until 10 p.m. If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at graffiti or just soak in some fresh art, this is the perfect chance. The gallery is located at 2200 N. Brevard St. in Charlotte, ready to welcome one and all.
Whether you’re an artist, an art enthusiast, or someone looking for a fun outing, the TAOH Outdoor Gallery promises to be a vibrant and inclusive space. Come out, get inspired, and let the creativity flow!
We can’t wait to see what unfolds at this colorful new space and how it impacts the local art scene!
