Tragically, 29-year-old Lamarcus Jackson succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Thankfully, the three others involved, including a 17-year-old, are reported to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities suspect this shooting might have ties to a drug transaction among individuals familiar with one another, raising questions about the spread of drug-related violence in the area.
The violence continued just a few hours later, shortly after 1 a.m. on Tuesday, when another incident rocked the community on Statesville Avenue. Here, 58-year-old Mustaffa Muhammad was found with a gunshot wound to the abdomen inside a Chevrolet Equinox and later died. CMPD reported that this particular shooting might be connected to a series of other recent violent occurrences, painting a troubling picture of escalating crime.
Adding to the chaos, between 1 a.m. and 1:30 a.m., policemen responded to four additional shooting reports in north Charlotte. Among the incidents was a disturbing attack that involved a bicycle rider and another shooting on I-77, where vehicles became targets.
Earlier that same day, the police uncovered yet another incident when they found 36-year-old Derrick Byas shot near an SUV on Rea Road. Authorities are also piecing together details of the homicide involving 19-year-old Marquez Alexander Summers, who was fatally shot during a drug deal that took a turn for the worse involving 22-year-old Demarius Jeprese Poole. Poole, already in custody for unrelated charges, is now facing murder charges.
With these recent events, the community’s concern and fear have intensified dramatically.
