Charlotte, NC – A serious incident occurred at Rocky River High School on Wednesday morning, where a fight erupted involving several students and a flammable liquid. The disturbance took place shortly after 7 a.m. in the school’s cafeteria.
According to officials at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, the conflict involved 11 students. During the fight, some individuals splashed a flammable liquid, leading to urgent medical evaluations by MEDIC. In response to the situation, the school was placed under a modified lockdown to help de-escalate tensions.
The incident left several students needing medical attention. One mother, Diesha Hawkins, spoke out about her daughters’ unfortunate involvement. She revealed that one daughter had to have her eyes flushed after being directly affected by the liquid, while the other got some in her hair.
“My daughter got the brunt. She had to get her eyes flushed out. She is traumatized,” Hawkins said. She expressed her fear over what could have happened if the situation had escalated further, speculating, “What if she had a lighter? She could’ve set them on fire. What if my daughter loses her eyesight?”
Hawkins emphasized the need for parents to play a more active role in teaching their children values such as empathy and respect. “The kids have no empathy, no morals, and no respect. It starts at home. We can’t just rely on the teachers to do everything,” she stated.
As of now, it remains unclear whether any students will face disciplinary charges as the investigation is still in its early stages. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools have not released any further details regarding potential consequences for those involved.
The shock of such an event has prompted discussions among parents and community members about safety in schools. Many are advocating for better conflict resolution strategies and preventive measures to ensure that students feel safe on school premises.
This incident serves as a reminder of the challenges facing schools today and the importance of addressing social issues among students. As authorities continue to investigate, the health and safety of students remain the top priority.
As this story develops, more updates will be provided to the community regarding the findings and any actions taken by the authorities to prevent similar incidents in the future.
