Charlotte Gathers to Honor Glandina Dixon at Candlelight Vigil

A Heartfelt Tribute

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – On Saturday evening, family and friends gathered to pay emotional tribute to 47-year-old Glandina Dixon during a candlelight vigil. The vigil, organized by the Mothers of Murdered Offspring group, served as a poignant reminder of the light Doris brought into the lives around her.

A Life Cut Short

On August 17, 2024, Glandina Dixon was tragically killed at a local QuikTrip restroom. Reports indicate that she was violently attacked by 53-year-old Sam Roary Jr., who is facing a charge of first-degree murder. Law enforcement noted that Roary and Dixon were familiar with each other, though this incident was not deemed a case of domestic violence, and some attendees suggested that Roary was a co-worker of Dixon.

Remembering Glandina

The attendees of the vigil shared memories of Dixon, who was known for her kind-hearted nature and unwavering work ethic as a truck driver. Many spoke about her ability to brighten any room, with Anthony Dixon, her uncle, stating, “There’s not a bad vein in her body.” Other friends shared similar sentiments about her warm spirit, mentioning how anyone who met her felt an immediate connection.

Voices from the Vigil

Anytime you encountered her, you were attached to her. She would embrace you. Her spirit was so warming,”

recounted James Love, a close friend. Several co-workers echoed these sentiments, highlighting her impressive skills as one of the few female truck drivers in a predominantly male field.

Community Support and Solidarity

The vigil was not only a time for remembrance but also a way for the community to come together and support each other in the face of such violence. Attendees held candles and shared stories, ensuring that Dixon’s memory would live on through the voices of those she touched.

Continuing Coverage

As the investigation unfolds, the community remains vigilant in seeking justice for Glandina Dixon while celebrating the positive impact she made in their lives. The journey ahead is likely to be challenging, but with the strong support network formed out of love and shared grief, there’s hope for healing and remembrance.
