Charlotte Celebrates National Mammography Day with Community Events

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – October is an important month for health awareness, especially for women, as it marks National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In honor of this, we’re gearing up for National Mammography Day this Friday. It’s a time to reflect on the importance of early detection in fighting breast cancer and how our community is coming together to support this cause.

Taking Action This Friday

This Friday, October 20, you can take a significant step toward prioritizing your health. The Baxter Close YMCA is opening its doors for mammogram appointments. It’s an easy and proactive way to ensure your health is a top priority. You can conveniently schedule an appointment online, making it easy to fit this essential check-up into your busy life.

An Eventful Conversation

To get insights into the community’s efforts for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we connected with two inspiring women: Angela Pullom, President of the Omega Tau Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and Latifee Land, recording secretary of the York County Pearls of Promise Foundation.

During our chat, Angela emphasized the critical role awareness plays in early detection. She mentioned, “It’s vital for women to take the initiative for their health. Events like National Mammography Day not only encourage screenings but also educate our community on the importance of understanding breast cancer.”

Latifee added to the conversation, highlighting how vital community support initiatives are. “We are not just scheduling appointments; we’re building a network of support. Knowing you’re not alone makes a difference,” she noted.

A Special Evening Ahead

Mark your calendars for another significant event in December! Both Angela and Latifee are hard at work planning the Ivy League Gala set for December 7. This gala is designed not just to raise funds but also to raise awareness and honor the stories of those affected by breast cancer.

Latifee passionately explained that the funds raised during the gala would directly support local breast cancer organizations and educational programs. “We’re hoping to create a lasting impact that extends beyond just one month of awareness,” she shared.

Tickets for the Ivy League Gala will be available soon, providing an excellent opportunity for community members to come together, celebrate, and contribute to a worthy cause.

Join the Movement

We encourage everyone in Charlotte and the surrounding areas to take part in this month’s events. Whether it’s getting a mammogram on Friday, attending the gala in December, or simply spreading the word about breast cancer awareness, every little bit counts.

Let’s inspire each other to take proactive steps for our health. Early detection can save lives, and being informed is half the battle.

So this October, let’s unite as a community and make strides towards awareness, support, and hope. Together, we can make a difference in the fight against breast cancer!
