Smith was flying from Punta Cana to Charlotte, N.C. on Feb 28. when she suddenly became sick mid-flight, according to the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force. Police received a distress call around 6:15 p.m. from the Air Traffic Control Tower requesting medical assistance for Smith. The plane then made an emergency landing at the Providenciales International Airport in Turks and Caicos. Smith was immediately taken to a hospital, but despite efforts to save her, she tragically passed away. Her boyfriend, who was traveling with her, witnessed the heartbreaking events unfold.
