Charlotte Kicks Off National Hispanic Heritage Month with Exciting Events and Cultural Celebrations

Charlotte Celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month!

Hey there, Charlotte! As we kick off the vibrant season of celebration, it’s time to recognize and embrace the rich tapestry of Latin American culture that thrives in our city. From September 15 to October 15, you’ll find plenty of events bursting with live music, delicious food, and cultural experiences that will connect you to the heart of Hispanic Heritage Month. Why, you ask, is this celebration stretched over two months? It’s all about recognizing the diversity and inclusion of many Latin American countries. So, let’s dive into some exciting events where you can rejoice and honor these beautiful cultures!

Kick-Off at El Puro Cuban Restaurant

First up, El Puro Cuban Restaurant is ready to set the tone for the month! On Thursday, September 12, from 6-10 p.m., join in the festivities with Casino Salsa Lessons. These lessons are perfect for both beginners (from 7-8 p.m.) and intermediate dancers (from 8-9 p.m.). The tantalizing smell of Lechón Asado en Caja China (that’s roasted pig, by the way!) will waft through the air, making it a feast for your taste buds as well. Don’t forget to check their event calendar since there are more celebrations lined up throughout the month!

34th Annual Latin American Festival

Mark your calendars for the 34th Annual Latin American Festival happening at Ballantyne’s Backyard on Saturday, September 21 starting at noon. Admission is free! This amazing festival will showcase Dominican superstar Eddy Herrera and Ecuadorian performer Juan Fernando Velasco, giving you a taste of the vibrant performances from across 19 Latin American countries. Plus, explore a mercadito (marketplace) where you can shop for cultural treasures, enjoy traditional foods, and witness lively dance performances. It’s a true celebration of community and culture!

Huntersville Latino Night

If you’re looking for a fun night out, head to Veterans Park in Huntersville on Friday, September 27, from 5-9 p.m. This is a perfect opportunity for a fabulous fiesta! Grab your friends and enjoy live music, dancing, and tons of delicious food from local food trucks. You can groove along to the exciting performances from Orquesta Mayor, NC Brazilian Arts Project, and DJ Nick Martin. It’s going to be one incredible night!

Artisan Food and Culture at Truist Field

On Saturday, September 28, make your way to Truist Field starting from 3 p.m. The excitement begins there! For just $20 at the door (kids aged 8 and younger get in free), you can immerse yourself in amazing artisan food and Hispanic culture featuring acts like The Kazzabe Group from Honduras, Karlos Rose from the Dominican Republic, and more. Just a heads up — while you can bring your furry friends along, leave the chairs, tents, and outside food at home!

Explore the Latin American Village on Tryon Street

On Saturday, October 5, from noon-6 p.m., enjoy a leisurely stroll along Tryon Street uptown. This will be your chance to explore the Latin American village, featuring booths from local cultural organizations. Discover musical instruments and unique items from Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and more! Although the entertainment lineup hasn’t been announced yet, trust us, it’s bound to be a blast!

Concord International Festival Awaits

Also, on October 5, don’t miss the Concord International Festival. It will take place at the intersection of Spring Street SW and Barbrick Avenue SW from noon-6 p.m. This free event will feature cultural stands, delicious food, and craft vendors. There’s even a kids’ corner! Enjoy performances from groups like Furia Tropikal NC and the Ballet Mexican Tradition of Julio Ruiz. It’s the perfect family outing!

There you have it, Charlotte! A month full of celebrations to honor and embrace our rich cultural heritage. Whether you love music, food, or dance, there’s something for everyone in our amazing city. As the festivities unfold, let’s celebrate unity and diversity together!
