Charlotte, N.C. – The tranquility of a suburban neighborhood in Charlotte has been shattered by the recent arrest of a local track coach, Daszmar Lockhart, who faces serious allegations of sexual assault involving teenagers. Neighbors were left in disbelief after the charges were announced, revealing a darker side to someone they thought they knew. The allegations include statutory rape, sex offenses, and indecent liberties, which have sent ripples of shock through the community.
Charnette Miller, a long-time resident of the area, expressed her astonishment at the news. Having lived in her house for 18 years, she has watched different families come and go. But the Lockhart family, who moved in years ago, seemed to blend in as just another set of neighbors. Miller recalled her typical daily interactions with them, saying, “Little things you know? Speak and say hello, you know. Hi and goodbye in passing.” While her relationship with the family wasn’t particularly close, there was always a friendly nod exchanged.
Daszmar Lockhart operated his business, Lock Nation Athletics, from his home, coaching young athletes in track and field. “I always was looking out to see if anything was going crazy or if anything that was not normal,” Miller noted. She often worked out in her gym located nearby, occasionally asking for assistance from the kids during their sessions. “They were really nice people,” she added, reflecting on her past perceptions of the family.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have accused Lockhart of taking advantage of at least three young girls during private training workouts. According to investigators, one girl, just 14 at the time, reported that she had been sexually abused over several years. Shocking details emerged, including claims by another young girl that Lockhart had inappropriately touched her. There is also a report from a third victim stating that the former coach touched himself during these private training sessions. The ages of these young girls ranged from 11 to 15, intensifying the severity of the allegations.
Miller shared her observations of children being dropped off at the Lockhart residence for workouts, noting, “I saw a lot of people just drop their kids off and leave. Then they would just work out for like an hour or so and I would hear the music because I work right upstairs.” Despite the loud music, she never suspected anything was amiss at the time.
As it stands, Daszmar Lockhart is currently in jail, being held on a $200,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to court next month. The unsettling nature of the accusations has left the community with more questions than answers, and many neighbors are grappling with feelings of concern and disbelief.
Authorities are urging anyone with further information related to this case to come forward. Detective Gose, who is leading the investigation, can be reached at 704-336-7495. Additionally, tips may be anonymously submitted through Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600, or by visiting their official website.
As this story continues to unfold, the community of Charlotte is left to process the grim reality of these allegations against someone who was once seen as a trusted figure. The importance of vigilance and communication within neighborhoods cannot be overstated; it may help protect the most vulnerable among us.
