Charlotte is experiencing a pizza renaissance, with a recent bracket-style challenge revealing the city’s top pizzerias. Jamie Graziano led a taste test of 16 local establishments, culminating in a showdown between Bird and Zepeddie’s. Zepeddie’s emerged victorious, impressing judges with its exceptional flavor and crust. This challenge has showcased Charlotte’s growing reputation in the pizza industry, inviting food lovers to explore its diverse offerings and join a delicious pizza pilgrimage in the Queen City.
Ah, Charlotte! Known for its Southern charm and culture, this city has just stepped up its game in the pizza department, bringing some serious slice to the table. Despite a few grumbles here and there about the quality of pizza options in the Queen City, it’s time to put those complaints to rest. Charlotte is officially home to some top-notch pizzerias, and thanks to a fun, bracket-style pizza challenge, we now know which one reigns supreme.
A local food enthusiast rolled up his sleeves and decided to put the city’s pizza options to the ultimate test. Inspired by the fun of March Madness, a pizza challenge was born that delighted pizza lovers everywhere. Jamie Graziano, alongside his two sons, Tristan and Brady, took on the tasty challenge of finding out which pizzeria serves up the best cheese pizza in town.
But what makes this tasting challenge so special? Jamie’s connection to pizza runs deep through his family roots. His great-grandfather, Sinabaldo Graziano, opened the first pizzeria in New Jersey and learned the art of baking from one of Little Italy’s most skilled masters. This six-generation tradition of pizza-making has added a sprinkle of authenticity to the entire challenge.
In this mouthwatering contest, 16 local pizzerias were invited to compete, with each one being scored on two main criteria: appearance and taste. The judges focused intently on the balance between the crust, sauce, and cheese. Each pizza was put through the paces with a scoring system that rated them from a perfect 10 down to a “not a fan” 4.
The competition was fierce, with the top four pizzas making it to the finals: Bird, Pizza Baby East, Zepeddie’s, and Omaggio. It was all set for an epic showdown, and pizza lovers everywhere were on the edge of their seats!
In an electrifying final challenge, Zepeddie’s and Bird went head-to-head for the title of best pizza in Charlotte. Each pizzeria pulled out all the stops, but it was Zepeddie’s that ultimately took the crown. Scoring a remarkable 8.7 for its impressive flavor profile and the best crust treatment in Charlotte—thanks to a touch of olive oil brushed on the crust—it was clear that Zepeddie’s was a fan favorite.
Bird wasn’t too far behind, scoring an admirable 8.6. Its unique flavor and nostalgic aroma transported many back to the iconic pizza shops of New Jersey, creating a delightful trip down memory lane. Not to be overlooked, Pizza Baby East, also scoring 8.6, dazzled taste buds with its delectable Neapolitan-style pizzas and Roman square slices.
Completing the top four, Omaggio earned a respectable score of 8.3. It impressed judges with its enticing Roman-style pizzas, crafted from high-quality ingredients and achieving the perfect cheese-to-sauce ratio—truly a mile ahead of ordinary pizza.
This tasty challenge has sent a clear message: Charlotte is officially a contender in the pizza game, ready to put its unique twist on America’s favorite dish. With pizzerias like Zepeddie’s, Bird, Pizza Baby East, and Omaggio leading the charge, it’s time to rally fellow pizza enthusiasts for a pizza pilgrimage through the Queen City.
Whether you’re craving a classic slice or something with a bold twist, Charlotte’s thriving pizza scene proves that great tastes are just waiting to be discovered. So, grab your friends, head out to one of these top-notch establishments, and indulge in a slice (or two) of pizza perfection!
