Kicking off Pride Month in style, Charlotte Pride has announced Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Paula Cole as the headliner for its upcoming 2024 Charlotte Pride Festival Weekend. The event is scheduled for August 17-18 in Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina.
Paula Cole first gained attention as a vocalist on Peter Gabriel’s 1993-94 Secret World Tour. She won the Best New Artist award at the 1997 Grammy Awards for her album “This Fire,” which reached No. 20 on the Billboard 200 and has sold over 2 million copies. Cole was also the first woman nominated for a Producer of the Year Grammy for her work on “This Fire.”
Throughout her career, Cole has been vocal in her social commentary through her music. Songs like “Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?” and “Silent” address gender stereotypes and her personal experiences, showing her as a trailblazer in the music industry.
In addition to Paula Cole, the Charlotte Pride Festival will feature country pianist and singer/songwriter Reyna Roberts, alt-rock band Modern Alibi, rapper and singer Baby Tate, drag queen Bob the Drag Queen, and electropop artist Slayyter. Drag queen Tora Himan will also perform alongside DJ Ghost at the event.
Reyna Roberts, known for her performance on America’s Got Talent and collaboration with Beyonce, brings her unique country sound to the festival. Baby Tate, who has toured with Charli XCX and released her EP in 2023, is set to headline on Saturday, August 17.
Charlotte Pride organizers are thrilled to bring together such a diverse and talented group of performers for the event. From iconic artists like Paula Cole to rising stars like Reyna Roberts and local talents like Modern Alibi, the lineup reflects the spirit and diversity of the LGBTQ+ community.
The festival is set to attract thousands of attendees and will include a parade, vendor fair, and other activities. Admission is free, with donations encouraged to support the event and keep it going for years to come.
Charlotte Pride has grown significantly since its inception in 2001, with the 2022 event drawing a record 275,000 people. The festival continues to be a vital celebration of LGBTQ+ pride, culture, and community in Charlotte.
