Uptown Charlotte's Ten58 Sports Bar Faces Health Inspection Backlash with Multiple Violations

Uptown Charlotte Eatery Faces Scrutiny After Recent Health Inspection

Charlotte, are you ready for some sizzling news? One of the city’s favorite spots, Ten58 Sports Bar and Lounge, has landed in hot water after a recent inspection by the Mecklenburg County Health Department. Last Thursday, December 12, the popular venue, located at 430 W. 4th St., received a less-than-stellar “B” grade with a score of 88.5%. Yikes!

A Closer Look at the Violations

So, what’s the scoop? During the inspection, health inspectors didn’t hold back on the findings—fruit flies buzzing around the kitchen and several standards left unmet were just the start of it. Other violations that raised eyebrows included:

  • Handwashing sink blocked by a broom and a trash can, compromising hygiene.
  • Unwashed peppers were chilling above ready-to-eat items, which can lead to serious health risks.
  • Three large stacks of soiled plates stored as clean—a definite no-no.
  • Containers of oil stored right on the floor—not exactly ideal!
  • Last but not least, an employee was preparing food without a hair restraint—a clear violation of food safety protocols.

What makes matters worse for Ten58 is that this isn’t their first time in the spotlight for health concerns. This marks their second “B” grade, with the first one happening back in August. It seems like they have some work to do!

More Charlotte Restaurants Under the Microscope

But Ten58 isn’t alone—there were a total of 146 restaurant inspections conducted across Charlotte between December 6 and 12. Out of those, most establishments managed to score an “A” grade, showcasing their commitment to maintaining high health standards. However, a few others joined the “B” club. Here’s a quick rundown:

  • Los Reyes Deli and Meat Market, located at 4416 Central Ave., got an 89% score during an inspection on December 10 for violating 10 standards, including improper food storage and unlabeled food. But don’t worry, they corrected most of the issues right away!
  • Shane’s Rib Shack, at 5220 New Fashion Way, scored 87.5% on December 11, also flagged for improper food storage and broken kitchen equipment, but fixed some violations during the inspection.
  • The Waterman Fish Bar in Cornelius, scored at 87.5% with 19 violations noted during their inspection on December 11, including damaged kitchen equipment and unclean surfaces. The good news? They managed to fix some issues on the spot!

What Do These Scores Mean?

In North Carolina, sanitation scores and their corresponding letter grades are a big deal. They help ensure everyone enjoys a safe dining experience by adhering to standards that prevent the spread of food-borne illnesses. You might have noticed those handy sanitation grade cards posted at restaurants, a quick way to peek into a restaurant’s cleanliness history.

Did you know that state law requires immediate permit revocation if a restaurant scores below 70%? That’s some serious motivation for eateries to keep their kitchens spick and span!
