Charlotte’s Rising Stars: Young Innovators Transforming the Community

Charlotte Celebrates Its Rising Stars in the Community

In the bustling city of Charlotte, a fresh energy is building as a wave of talented young leaders takes on influential roles across various fields. While Charlotte has historically been shaped by a few prominent figures, today’s emerging professionals are making a big splash, turning their passions into powerful community projects and initiatives. This is the third annual recognition of these incredible Power Players, each wielding their influence for the greater good.

Meet the Young Innovators

First up, let’s talk about Carrie Cook, the vice president of community development for the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. A proud graduate of Vance High School and former recipient of the Maya Angelou Young Leader award, Cook is using her skills and the bank’s resources to build stronger communities in the Southeast. Her social media is packed with inspiring stories about her journey, blending real-life insights with practical advice. She’s a strong example of how finance can intersect with community development!

Then we have Meredith Dean, the founder of The Dean’s List. At just 22, her digital branding and consulting firm is already making waves in Charlotte’s media scene. You might recognize her work with reality star Jess Vestal from “Love Is Blind”. Now, Meredith is on a mission, accepting nominations for her 20 Under 20 Awards to spotlight young leaders aged 14 to 19 in Charlotte. She’s also honoring the legacy of the late queen of hearts, Cheslie Kryst, with the Black Woman in Media Award.

Making Culinary Waves

On the culinary front, the dynamic couple Raydal has transformed a struggling Mexican eatery into the beloved Three Amigos Mexican Grill & Cantina. Their hospitality group now includes 19 restaurants across the Carolinas, bringing diversity and flavor to our community. Excitingly, they’re about to launch an authentic Dominican restaurant, MaBí, in NoDa, which is sure to be a hit!

Caffeinating Charlotte

Let’s not forget about Brian Helfrich, the CEO and owner of Summit Coffee. His coffee brand is brewing up a storm and is quickly becoming one of the fastest-growing names in the business. With locations across three states, the buzz around Summit Coffee keeps growing—sometimes it’s even tough to find a parking spot! And there’s more in store as Helfrich is working on Summit Farms, an ambitious 58-acre development centered on farming and sustainability.

Empowering Local Youth

The change-makers don’t stop there. Aaron Randolph, co-founder and executive director of the Carolina Youth Coalition, is making significant strides in connecting bright but under-resourced high schoolers to colleges, ensuring they have the necessary support to attend and excel. Following a successful $10 million fundraising campaign, the coalition is gearing up for an exciting school year, ready to welcome over 300 teenagers to their program.

Retail and Community Connections

Shifting gears into retail, Moffit, the owner of Thrift Pony, quit her corporate job to start a clothing rental business that has bloomed into a popular consignment store. Known for hosting community events and fundraisers, each initiative combines fun with philanthropy. This fall, Thrift Pony is expanding to Camp North End, which promises even greater things ahead.

Also paving the way is Cheryse Terry, who created Archive, a unique coffee shop and retail space that uplifts Black culture in Charlotte. Filled with vibrant community spirit, Archive serves as a gathering spot that transcends just a simple place for coffee.

Cultural Celebrations

Wesley is another name you need to know. As the creative force behind the beloved Durag Festival, he’s created an event that celebrates culture through art, education, and community support.

A Community Hub

Lastly, Shehan is building connections through her platform, the CLT Social Club. Her efforts to unite newcomers and locals alike have blossomed into a network of nearly 29,000 followers who thrive on community engagement.

As these young Power Players lead with dedication and vision, Charlotte is primed for remarkable growth and vibrancy. With diverse talents and big hearts, they are indeed changing the landscape of our beloved city, and we can’t wait to see what’s next!
