Charlotte, N.C. – A chaotic scene unfolded on a school bus in Charlotte when gunfire erupted, resulting in an injury to one student on board. This alarming incident took place on Monday afternoon around 3:30 PM in the 8800 block of East W.T. Harris Boulevard.
According to police reports, a dispute occurred outside of bus 1748, which was transporting roughly 30 students at the time. Shots were fired, striking the bus and injuring one student. Fortunately, the injuries were not life-threatening; the student was treated on-site for minor glass cuts caused by shattered bus windows.
In response to the shooting, law enforcement officials promptly arrived at the scene. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) confirmed that another bus has been dispatched to safely take the remaining students home. Parental notifications were also made to ensure families were aware of the situation.
Investigators have made at least one arrest related to the shooting but are continuing their inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the event. Details about the nature of the dispute that led to the shooting have not yet been disclosed.
In a message sent to families of Albemarle Road Middle School, Principal Perry addressed the seriousness of the incident. “It is natural to feel anxious or frightened by incidents like this,” she reassured parents, and added that crisis counselors would be available at the school to support students in need.
This incident has understandably rattled the community, as gun violence poses a significant concern for parents and educators alike. The CMS district emphasized their commitment to safety and will likely discuss additional security measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
The shooting highlights ongoing issues surrounding safety in school transportation and the importance of conflict resolution among students. As the investigation continues, authorities urge anyone with further information regarding this incident to come forward. Residents are reminded to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity as the safety of children remains a top priority for both families and school officials.
