Well, Charlotte, we might not have seen a winter wonderland in our backyard this week, but boy, did some parts of North Carolina get a serious blanket of snow! While the Queen City woke up to chilly temperatures and just a few dressed-up flakes, the western section of our lovely state was getting quite the snow party.
The big winner in this snowy affair is Faust, an unincorporated community nestled in the beautiful Madison County. According to the National Weather Service, these mountain folks enjoyed a whopping 10.5 inches of snow early Tuesday morning. Imagine the cozy scenes! Snow-covered cabins, steaming mugs of hot chocolate, and people bundled up like marshmallows. Sounds dreamy, doesn’t it?
Meanwhile, over here in Charlotte, the snow totals were a bit less impressive. In fact, much of Mecklenburg County only recorded trace amounts of snow. Just a reminder, for it to count as measurable snow, you need at least a tenth of an inch. So, here we are, still in the midst of our snow drought – which has now stretched to a fantastic 1,039 days since Charlotte last saw any meaningful snowfall. Talk about a long wait!
Curious about how the surrounding counties fared? Here’s a little roundup of snow totals reported on Dec. 3 by the National Weather Service’s office in nearby Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina:
It’s fascinating how much variation there can be in snow totals, all depending on where you are. Some places are having a snowy celebration while others are left peeking out their windows, hoping for just a dusting.
Now, before you get too excited, if you were hoping Charlotte’s snow drought would end soon, I have some news. The forecast for the next week is looking pretty clear, with no snow in sight for the Queen City. It seems like we’ll be waiting a little longer to create snowmen and have snowball fights. But don’t lose hope just yet – winter isn’t over! There’s still plenty of time for some *magical* snow to come our way.
So while the folks in Faust are probably still enjoying their snow-covered landscapes, Charlotte is left to dream of the day when snowflakes will fall once again. Wrap up warm, Charlotte! Whether we get snow or not, there’s something truly special about the season that brings us all cozy together. Here’s to hoping we’ll see some of that winter magic soon!
