A celebration of culture and community is coming to Charlotte on April 27 at the Got Soul: Savor the Culture festival. The festival, put on by the South Charlotte Jack & Jill chapter, aims to bring the community together for a day of fun and entertainment.
Jack & Jill is a membership-only organization dedicated to “strengthening future Black leaders” through various initiatives such as civic engagement, financial literacy, and philanthropy. The organization also engages in community service, with initiatives like the Superbowl of Caring, where members collect and donate food items to local pantries.
Described as a “kickoff to summer,” the festival is expected to attract around 800 attendees. Attendees are encouraged to dress in “bohemian chic” attire for the event, which will feature seven food trucks, more than ten local vendors, music, a concert by DJ Kool, stilt walkers, a fire show, giveaways, handmade crafts for sale, and much more.
Proceeds from the event will benefit local community organizations, including Do Greater, Families Forward, and Freedom Within Walls. Additionally, the event will support Jack & Jill’s national HBCU gap fund, which helps students close the gaps to finish school.
“It’s really just a celebration of community, art culture…to celebrate our diverse and inclusive community,” said Bonika Wilson, the foundation chair for the South Charlotte chapter of Jack & Jill.
The event promises to provide a unique and enjoyable experience for all who attend, with a variety of activities and entertainment lined up throughout the day.
