Charlotte Coach Facing Serious Allegations
In Charlotte, a troubling situation has emerged as a 37-year-old track coach has been arrested on serious charges related to child sexual assault. Daszmar Lammon Lockhart, the owner of a local track and field company and travel team called Lock Nation Athletics, is facing multiple charges after three women stepped forward, alleging he abused them during their minor years. Captain Jason Helton of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police held a press conference on Tuesday to share the details of this unsettling case.
The Arrest and Charges
Lockhart was taken into custody on Tuesday and slapped with some alarming charges: one count of statutory rape of a child 15 years or younger, four counts of taking indecent liberties with a child, and two counts of statutory sex offense involving a child in the same age bracket. These accusations paint a picture of a coach who misused his influence in a sports setting.
The Victims’ Stories
One brave woman recounted that when she was just 14, Lockhart repeatedly assaulted her on numerous occasions at various addresses over a period from 2018 to 2020. Shockingly, she revealed that these incidents often occurred during private training sessions at his home weight room. Captain Helton emphasized that Lockhart utilized his position of power as a coach to intimidate her into silence, making her feel like he was instrumental to her success in track and field.
Two additional victims have also come forward with their own accounts of abuse they experienced while under Lockhart’s coaching in recent years. One was only 11 years old at the time, while another was 15 and reported that Lockhart assaulted her during a private training session at his home. Alarmingly, to avoid detection from her parents, Lockhart allegedly created a fake Snapchat account to communicate with her.
A Pattern of Misconduct
According to Helton, the incidents took place in various locations, including Charlotte and Fayetteville. Disturbingly, Lockhart was previously convicted in 2019 for disseminating obscenity involving a minor at a grocery store, raising concerns about a continuous pattern of inappropriate behavior.
Encouragement for Other Potential Victims
The police believe there could be more victims out there who have yet to come forward. Captain Helton has urged anyone who has experienced similar situations with Lockhart to reach out to their crimes against children detectives. “Courage comes in many forms, and we want to support those who have been victims of abuse,” he stated.
Lockhart was issued a secured bond of $200,000. As the investigation continues, parents are reminded of the importance of monitoring their children, ensuring they are safe with coaches and adults.
