Occurring near the 65.2-mile marker on the I-485 Outer Loop at about 9:35 a.m., the situation quickly escalated from a speed enforcement stop to a collision, shaking the lives of those involved.

The state trooper, who was identified as Brad Gaines, found himself in a challenging situation when a Honda Accord, driven by Willie James McClain, collided with his patrol car. The impact was severe, causing both vehicles to slide off the left shoulder, with the patrol car crashing into the concrete median barrier. Fortunately, Trooper Gaines was inside his car at the time and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Jose Rivera tragically lost his life in a single-car accident on The Plaza near Eastway Drive. This crash occurred just after midnight on Friday, March 7, when Rivera was driving at a high rate of speed before colliding with a tree. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
