Hey there, Charlotte! There’s exciting news brewing in our vibrant Queen City. A brand-new organization, Trans United CLT, is stepping up to unite and uplift the local transgender community, and it’s doing so in the most refreshing way possible! Officially launched on July 13, this organization is a labor of love, exclusively run by members of the transgender community for the transgender community. Talk about empowerment!
Trans United CLT has wasted no time diving right into their mission, and they’ve already made quite the splash! One of the standout initiatives they’ve proudly hosted is the Name Change Clinic, which took place on October 27. This clinic was a collaborative effort, teaming up with various organizations and individuals to provide much-needed support for those navigating the often-complicated process of legally changing their names.
According to Morgan Callahan, a Co-Executive Director and founding board member of TUCLT, the clinic offers a friendly guiding hand to those looking to embrace their true selves. Morgan explains, “The Name Change Clinic is a community-led service designed to help transgender, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming folx begin the legal process of changing their names.”
So, if you’ve ever found yourself overwhelmed by paperwork, fret not! The incredible team is there to help complete documents and walk you through the next steps. It’s all about making this process feel affirming and much less daunting. How fantastic is that?
But wait, there’s more! Trans United CLT is also partnering with the Charlotte Gaymers Network (CGN) to curate a unique event known as T4T. These get-togethers are more than just social gatherings; they’re a fantastic opportunity for the trans community, along with their allies, to relax, enjoy entertaining activities, and forge new connections. With a focus on community and celebration, TUCLT is excited to keep this joyful tradition alive.
Nora Morton, another Co-Executive Director & founding board member, expressed her enthusiasm for taking these events to the next level. “We feel that T4T events are a perfect addition to our offerings of support groups and community events,” she shared cheerfully. “Together, we look forward to expanding these popular meetups, ensuring more opportunities for members and allies alike to come together, unwind, and celebrate in a welcoming environment dedicated to unity and support.”
If you’re ready to dive into the fun, mark your calendars! The next T4T event is set for November 15, and the Name Change Clinic is making a grand return on January 4, 2025. And don’t miss out on “TRANSgiving,” a special gathering happening on November 23 at Hygge, located at 1026 Jay Street in the heart of Charlotte. It’s a wonderful chance to mingle, connect, and simply enjoy some good company.
With Trans United CLT making waves in the community, it’s reassuring to know that Charlotte’s transgender residents now have a welcoming space to call home. Their ambitious initiatives and inclusive events are shaping a bright future for all. So whether you’re a member of the transgender community or an ally, there’s something for everyone. Let’s come together and support this fantastic organization as they continue to foster community and advocate for change.
As always, local journalism thrives with your support! Consider making a contribution to ensure that stories like these continue to flourish and reach those who need them most. After all, we’re all in this together, making our community a better place for everyone.
