For Jacqueline Lewis, searching for answers in the Charlotte Community is her passion. Lewis is the founder of Angels of No Mercy, an organization focused on stopping violence in the community. Following the news of 22-year-old Markayla and her two children, 4-year-old Miricle Johnson and 7-month-old Messiah Johnson , Lewis is left wondering why their bodies were not found sooner.
“It took that long to decide whether or not to get a search warrant? And they’re saying the problem was that it wasn’t her house. It doesn’t matter. We were looking for children and a mom,” shared Lewis.
She’s also questioning why an Amber Alert wasn’t issued for the children. “I did not see an Amber Alert go out, I did not hear an Amber Alert go out,” said Lewis.
A spokesperson with CMPD explained to HERE News that the department will not talk about a timeline or anything specific to this case because they don’t want to jeopardize anything in court.
Lewis asserts the outcome of the investigation would have ended differently if it happened elsewhere. “Had this happened somewhere in Ballentine, the Amber Alert would’ve went out immediately,” Lewis said. “Search warrants would’ve been… search warrants would’ve went out immediately.”
HERE News asked Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police (CMPD) for an interview on Wednesday explaining the department’s procedure for handling a missing person’s case, especially one involving children. We were told they did not have any availability on Wednesday; however, they are willing to discuss it at a later time. HERE News will continue to follow this story.
