Local youth making a difference in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A local organization in Charlotte, Canopy Housing Foundation, is seeking nominations for youth who are dedicated to making a positive impact on the community. The organization presents the ‘Y.E.S. Award’ each year, which stands for Youth Excellence in Service. This award recognizes young individuals in the area who are actively working towards improving the community.

Recognizing young change-makers

Since the inception of the Y.E.S. award in 2019, Canopy Housing Foundation has awarded a total of $2,500 to each recipient’s chosen non-profit organization. Last year, 17-year-old ZaNia Stinson was honored with the award for her remarkable work with her non-profit, Z Feeds Angel Food Project. Stinson started her organization at the young age of nine, providing essential items like food and toiletries to those in need.

Stinson’s personal experience with homelessness inspired her to help others in similar situations. Her dedication and passion for serving the community have made a significant impact on those around her.

Empowering the next generation

Stacy Baum, a sponsorship coordinator at Canopy Housing Foundation, expressed the organization’s excitement in presenting the Y.E.S. award to deserving youth. The goal is to empower and showcase young individuals who are making a positive difference in Charlotte.

The award not only recognizes the recipient’s efforts but also serves as a source of inspiration for other young people to get involved in community service and activism. By highlighting the achievements of these exceptional individuals, Canopy Housing Foundation hopes to motivate others to follow in their footsteps.

Nominations open until May 31st

The deadline to nominate a young changemaker for this year’s Y.E.S. Award is May 31st at 5 p.m. Nominations can be submitted online through the Canopy Housing Foundation website. Youth between the ages of 10-18 are eligible for the award, which includes a commemorative plaque and a $500 donation to the charity of the recipient’s choice.

By recognizing and honoring the efforts of youth who are leading positive change in the community, Canopy Housing Foundation aims to showcase the impact that young individuals can have on society. The Y.E.S. Award serves as a reminder of the importance of youth engagement and activism in building a better future for Charlotte.
