Health officials in Mecklenburg County have confirmed the eighth case of rabies in 2024, with a raccoon testing positive for the disease. This latest case involved a raccoon in the 28206 zip code, specifically on Moretz Avenue. Fortunately, there have been no reported human or domestic pet exposures in the area.

Rabies Cases in Mecklenburg County

This recent incident marks the seventh raccoon to test positive for rabies in Mecklenburg County this year. Apart from raccoons, a Bovine also tested positive for rabies in the 28227 zip code. Over the past five years, there have been at least 14 positive rabies cases each year in Mecklenburg County.
