Charlotte is set to begin construction on the city’s first all-electric firehouse in June. Firehouse 30, located at 4707 Belle-Oaks Drive, will become the city’s first all-electric firehouse equipped with a new electric firetruck and a new address.
The two-story, three-bay, 14,000-square-foot facility will replace the existing firehouse and be located at 3019 Beam Road, Charlotte, according to a statement from the City of Charlotte. Firehouse 30’s present building was built in 1955 and was intended to be a temporary facility. However, it no longer meets the requirements to function as a permanent facility.
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Monday, June 3, at 10 a.m. at the site of the new firehouse. This initiative is part of the Construct Fire Facilities Program within the FY22 budget, with Firehouse 30 being one of three firehouses identified for redevelopment.
The decision to make Firehouse 30 an all-electric facility aligns with the city’s commitment to sustainability and reducing carbon emissions. The new electric firetruck will further contribute to lowering the carbon footprint of the fire department, setting an example for environmentally-friendly practices.
Local residents and officials have shown excitement for the development of the new all-electric firehouse. The modern facility, equipped with the latest technology and energy-efficient systems, will not only benefit the firefighters but also enhance emergency response services for the community.
The construction of Firehouse 30 marks an important milestone in the city’s efforts to modernize its fire department and embrace sustainable solutions. As Charlotte continues to grow and evolve, the implementation of advanced technology in critical services like firefighting sets a positive direction for the future.
