A massive three-alarm fire in Uptown last Thursday was intentionally set, according to Charlotte Fire. The fire started at a building along Margaret Brown Street across from Frazier Park. Nearly a week later, Frank Wohlfarth, displaced from his home due to the fire, shared a doorbell camera video of the moment the nearby fire spread to his house while he was sleeping inside.
The 30-second clip captured on Wohlfarth’s ring doorbell camera clearly shows how quickly the fire spread. The video starts at 1:55 a.m. Thursday, with a bright ball of fire on a nearby building, the smoke and flames started to engulf his front porch just a few seconds later. Wohlfarth expressed his gratitude for surviving the ordeal, realizing how close he was to losing his life.
Investigators with the Charlotte Fire Department revealed that the fire may have been caused by an intentionally set fire at a vacant nearby home. Officials mentioned that the same vacant property was intentionally set on fire the night before. Anyone with information about who may have started the fire is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
Wohlfarth shared that he could not salvage much from his home and is currently seeking a new place to live. Community support is welcome to assist him during this challenging time. If you would like to help Wohlfarth, click here.
The incident serves as a reminder of the destructive impact of intentional fires and the importance of vigilance in preventing such dangerous acts. Charlotte Fire continues their investigation into the incident as the community rallies to support those affected by the fire.
