Former Charlotte Mayor to Keynote League’s 40th Anniversary Event

Southern Pines, NC – Former Charlotte Mayor Jennifer Watson Roberts has been announced as the keynote speaker for the League of Women Voters of Moore County’s 40th anniversary luncheon celebration on Tuesday, March 26.

Roberts, currently serving as the North Carolina co-lead for the Carter Center’s Strengthening Democracy Project, will pay homage to the late Rosalynn Carter with a special tribute during the event.

A Distinguished Career in Public Service

Roberts, a Democrat, served as the 58th Mayor of Charlotte from 2015 to 2017. She made history as the first woman to be elected mayor of the city, following her service on the Charlotte City Council and Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners.

During her tenure as mayor, Roberts focused on issues such as economic development, transportation, and affordable housing. She also championed LGBTQ rights and environmental sustainability initiatives.

Keynote Address and Special Tribute

At the League of Women Voters’ 40th anniversary event, Roberts will deliver a keynote address reflecting on her experiences in public service and the importance of civic engagement.

In addition to her keynote address, Roberts will honor Rosalynn Carter for her dedication to mental health advocacy and public service. The tribute will highlight Carter’s contributions to promoting mental health awareness and reducing the stigma surrounding mental illness.

League of Women Voters of Moore County
