Habitat for Humanity Pledges $250,000 for Rock Hill Storm Recovery

ROCK HILL, S.C. – For over two months, residents of Rock Hill have been grappling with the aftermath of a devastating storm. Strong winds and hail have wreaked tremendous damage, affecting countless homes and lives. Stepping up to the plate to aid the ongoing recovery efforts, Habitat for Humanity of York County has announced a pivotal decision – the allocation of $250,000 from its strategic reserves.

“Our board approved $250,000 to assist in the recovery effort. The funds will be targeted specifically to assist uninsured homeowners who are low income and don’t have the means to repair their home.”, stated Tim Veeck, the CEO of Habitat for Humanity of York County.

Helping the Vulnerable

While the initial shock of the storm has subsided, the road to recovery is long and arduous. Veeck revealed during his conversation with local media that despite much progress, many residents still face immense challenges in fully restoring their homes.

One such resident is Sue Massey, who welcomed assistance to repair her roof but highlighted the remaining damages to her gutters and siding. “I think we’ve come a long way from the storm, but a lot still needs to be done.” Shared Massey.

Public figures like Veeck are championing the importance of staying focused on the storm recovery and reminding the community that they haven’t been forgotten. So far, Habitat for Humanity has provided assistance to 16 families and intends to help many more in need.

Community Support is Critical

The call for community support rings clear in Veeck’s words. He emphasized the importance of ongoing support to ensure the recovery and restoration process continues at a steady pace. Further, Veeck stressed that the daily reality of storm recovery remains for many residents, highlighting the stark truth behind disaster recovery estimates.

For those willing to get involved and lend a hand, Habitat for Humanity of York County is open and welcoming. Whether to volunteer time, donate much-needed funds, or seek assistance, the organization encourages everyone to reach out.

Moving Forward: The Recovery Continues

The journey towards full recovery is far from over. As the residents of Rock Hill continue to grapple with the aftermath of this natural disaster, more and more people are stepping up to help, fueled by a most human instinct – to lend a hand when help is needed.

Important initiatives like the one led by Habitat for Humanity play a crucial role in community recovery, providing much-needed relief and a glimmer of hope to those most affected. With a pledge of $250,000 towards the restoration efforts, Habitat for Humanity is living up to its mission of ‘building homes, communities, and hope’.
